The synovial PGE2 concentration was significantly reduced after 3 weeks application of COX-2 inhibitor and was significantly increased 3 weeks after the last administration of COX-2 inhibitor in comparison to the 3-week examination time point. An increased new bone formation was temporally associated with an increased PGE2 concentration in the bone tunnel area near the joint area
